Sapgum

Liquidamber styraciflus. Sapgum is a light colored hardwood with a close, rather diffuse grain. The sapwood is white to pinkish white in color. The slightly contrasting heartwood is light red to brown.

Sapgum grows widely across the central and southern United States, and has a broad application in the manufacturing of cabinets and furniture — especially antique reproductions.

Use: Furniture, cabinets.

Availability: Generally available 4/4 through 8/4 thickness. Limited availability 10/4, 12/4 and thicker.
